Combat

Body hits

  • You start with three body hits
  • Every time you are struck in combat you lose one body hit, unless another call is made.
  • You become incapacitated when you reach zero body hit

Please see Healing for information on how you heal someone.

Death and Dying

In combat you first lose any vitality that you have, and then hit points. If you lose hit points then you will need to be healed. Note that vitality is a mixture of armour and the ability to dodge ect. If you have not taken a point of damage to your hit-point from a source then it has not truly damaged you. You may however still suffer other effects like Stun ect.

When a character reaches 0 by taking damage they are incapacitated and bleeding out. Normal characters have a 5 minute death count, at the end of this they die. You cannot be reduced to under zero hit points in any way.

It is possible for a character to be reduced to 0 without taking damage (eg Drain). Or to be raised to zero and no longer be Incapacitated. In this case you become Debilitated. While Debilitated you can't run, make any damage call or use any skills. You may still block attacks, take drugs ect. If you are raised to 1 hp for any reason then you are no longer Debilitated and may act as normal.

Execution is used to kill an unresisting target by hacking them to pieces. You do not need a skill to execute a character if you have a mele weapon in hand. For a count of thirty seconds you must roleplay hacking the target to pieces with your weapon, in such a way that it is obvious to everyone in the vicinity what you are doing.

Damage Calls

You can only ever have one damage call on an attack. So you could never call "Single through strike down"

Through

This attack is precise and piercing thus it ignors vitality and damages the body directly.

Disarm (Hand)

You must release you hold of anything in the hand called. Note that you cannot tie things to your wrists to make you unable to be disarmed. Be sensible when disarmed with something breakable in your hands. If you have two hands on an object then only one hand is disarmed.

Stun

You may not run, and may only defend for 2 seconds. This works even if it does not deal a point of damage to your body.

Paralyse

You cannot move, or make any noise for 30 seconds. This works even if it does not deal a point of damage to your body.

Cleave

If this blow takes a body hit from a limb then you may not use that limb until you are healed.

Strike down

You are struck to the ground, you must ensure that the soles of both feet are off the ground at the same time that your torso is touching the ground. If you do not wish to fall over, then you must drop everything and crouch down for five seconds. You may take up to two steps away from the opponent who has struck you, to avoid having to fall over in unsafe or particularly wet areas. This works even if it does not deal a point of damage to your body.

Damage

There are different types of damage in Finding Eden.

Flaming comes from weapons or effects which produce extreme heat or fire such as a plasma weapon or steam from a pipe. This type of damage is hard to heal. for example "single flaming" or "Double through flaming"

Corrosive damage comes from strong acids or alkalis. These wounds are hard to heal. for example "corrosive double " or "mass corrosive single"

Electro damage is caused by electricity being applied to your body. An example would be from a Taser or a live wire. for example "electro single " or "electro single stun" . If you are hit by electro damage you cannot unclench your hands. Thus if you are electrocuted by touching something then you may get stuck to it. Also Electro damage will store charge in anyone who has cybernetics in them. One point of charge will be stored for each point of electro damage taken up to a max of the sum of the levels of all Cybernetics in them. This can be discharged with a ref. The more charge a character has on them the greater the chance of injury the person has from the discharge.

Normal damage such as from a knife will have no special calls apart from damage and effect such as "double" or "single through"

Other calls and effects

Effect This call informs you that something other than the above has happened eg. you have been poisoned or exposed to radiation. If used on you in combat it will come into effect at the end of that combat. If it has a time duration it will start from the end of the combat. For example if you were shot in combat with a poisoned dart the call could be "Single through effect"

Drain This is a specific call which will almost never be called in combat. Each time you are drained you loose one hp that cannot be regained through the use of surgery or First aid. Drugs can still give you this HP back as normal. The most common cause of this will be lack of food in downtime. If you eat 3 ration blocks in a downtime you will reduce the amount you are drained for the next game.

Exhaustion
The exhaustion mechanic shows when a character has done something that takes real effort and concentration. You cannot use an ability that causes exhaustion if you are currently under the effects of exhaustion. This counts even if you are under the effects, but able to ignore it in some way. When you are undergoing the effects of Exhaustion you should act tired and worn out.

Trauma
Sometimes a character will take an effect that will take longer than normal to heal. This is caused a Trauma. Each trauma has a level which determines how hard it is to deal with and ignore.
Level 0 effects can be ignored with a little concentration, but they may indicate that worse things are below the surface. A list of possible Trauma is shown below. If you wish to get rid of Trauma then you will need to get to a character with the skills Reprogrammer or Physical Therapy depending on if its mental or Physical. This may not be obvious from the effect that you are under. The skill Hypnosis allows traumas of all types to be ignored for a short time, but does not remove them.

L0) Ignorable, but may become worse, sprains, minor blind spots ect
L1) fractures, heavy brusing, minor conusion, the shakes
L2) minor breaks, dislocations, phobias
L3) Broken bones, minor head injuries, blured vision
L4) shattered bones, sever concussion, PTSD
L5) Missing limbs, unconsciousness, Anaphalatic shock

There are 3 types of Trauma, long term Physical, long Term Mental and Immediate Trauma. The first two will only be given to you at the start of a game and they are due to long term effects that you have undergone. Immediate Trauma may be given to you in a mission and it represents an effect that can be treated there and then. If an immediate trauma is not treated by the end of a game then it must be handed in at the end and may cause Long term Traumas.
